Competitor Quality Comparison
Over the past few months, there has been many retailers of glow products showing up on the Internet. Almost all of these retailers use phrases like "Brightest Powder Available" or "Latest and Brightest Technology". But the reality is that most of these companies are selling lower grade products.
We believe that educated purchasers, provided with the proper information can sort through the lies and compare equal quality products. We are an inexpensive supplier of the products we manufacture and encourage you to use the following tools to compare us against our competitors.
Here is some basic facts that will help you on your quest.
1. Glow pigment is rated by the manufacturers depending on its brightness. For example, Earth Aluminate Greens and Blues are rated from 5 to 8. To make it simpler for the beginning purchaser, our company has renamed these levels as follows High=5, Super=6, Ultra=7, Ultra Plus=8.
2. 99% of green glow powder sold in the world is rated as 6 or below. We are one of the largest distributors and 80% of the green powder we sell is rated 7 or 8. It does not take a mathematician to calculate that the majority of that 1% high grade comes from our company.
3. There is only a single red glow product currently being manufactured. Technically, it is called Red Zinc Sulfide. It is one of our worst performing products and we warn purchasers that it is probably going to be less than impressive. On our charts, it is listed as a very low level glow and has a glow time of 10 minutes. Because there is only a single red glow product, it is a great product to use in comparisons. If a retailer says that their red glows more than 10 minutes, they are obviously lying. If they say that it is "very bright" or "Has high initial brightness", they are obviously lying. Therefore red can give you some insight to the integrity of their company. Purple is also good comparison product and has similar problems to red.
4. Since there is only a single red and a single purple pigment, they can also be useful for price comparisons. High end green and blue pigment (level 7 or 8) is almost twice the cost of regular green and other colors like red and purple (level 6). Therefore, if a supplier is charging the same price for all of their colors, they are probably selling you regular green, not the high end green product.
5. The absolutely brightest green powder has a brightness of 17310 mcd/m2 as rated by an independent lab. One competitor says that their powder is over 19,000 mcd/m2. When we purchased a sample and sent it to the lab, it rated 9701 mcd/m2. In short, we sell almost all glow powders including the brightest available. If their numbers are not very close to the ones on our technical page, then they have probably arbitrarily made them up.
6. The manufacturers clearly state that none of their Earth Aluminates (brightest glow products) have a high water tolerance. If a company says that their glow powders can be used in water, then they are probably selling you the much less expensive Zinc based product.
7. Many companies are selling paint that is from "over the counter" sources. At Glow Inc, we have tried over 150 paints and did not find a single one that did not have a major problem. Either the paint had at least a small amount of H2O included, it had UV filters in it, or it could not hold the powder in suspension. All of which considerably damaged the brightness and quality of the final project. We paid a chemist to custom design our paint formula. It does not suffer from any of the above flaws. It adheres to almost all surfaces It dries hard and is scratch resistant. Don't get fooled by other companies selling nail polish with Glow pigment in it. Our paint is only available from our website and our hobby store retailers.
8. Quality goes beyond the product itself. Ask the seller how they package the material and what tech support they offer. Are they using zip-lock style bags, HDPE canisters, or high-mil sealed plastic?
9. We encourage you to look for facts on our competitors page to determine if they are a reputable company. We also encourage you to call us with all of your questions about us or our competition. We can be reached at 410-551-4874 from 10am-12pm EST. |
